Kelsey Shoub's research centers on two questions: (1) How descriptive identities, such as race and gender, of officials and civilians intersect with context, such as policy and institutions, to shape outcomes in the United States; and (2) How does language relate to policy and perceptions of politics? Focusing on race, gender, and policing to study the former and language used by political elites for the latter, she collects and analyses large data sets using statistical and machine learning techniques, which she complements with experimental methods.
